Upskill America
President Obama’s Upskill initiative is focused on realizing the full potential of America’s workforce by empowering
Americans with the education and training they need to develop new skills and earn higher wages. As a part of the
Upskill initiative, Kaiser Permanente is taking steps in preparing the workforce for the future of health care, which
includes our customized and dynamic LHH online career portal, including self-assessments, career exploration, action
plan development, and career management tools, as well as tools for managers to assist in employee development. We
have also rolled out Critical Skills for the 21st Century, which will provide skill enhancement and digital badging
for our current workforce in process improvement, digital fluency, collaboration, and consumer focus. And as part of
a career mobility effort for entry level classifications, we will develop comprehensive career upgrade programs that
will include educational plan guidance, tuition assistance, time off to train, and career counseling support.
Critical Skills
We identified the 4 critical skills that will help prepare the KP workforce for the evolution of
healthcare. We will deliver those skills through a variety of online options including existing
internal resources, external resources and a dynamic adaptive learning platform.
